MCR Exec
Megan Edwards
Megan was elected MCR President of Lady Margaret Hall in Michaelmas term 2010. Having been involved with the MCR at LMH since joining College in 2009, previous incarnations include a successful term as MCR Social Secretary.
Other interests include sport, student welfare and politics and science outreach work. Rowing for the women’s first eight, Megan has represented LMH in both Torpids and Summer Eights. Recently elected by Oxford University Student Union to the University Rules Committee, she also represents the graduate student body of the University and spoke at the latest meeting of Congregation regarding recent political proposals.
Studying for a DPhil in Atomic and Laser Physics, she is commonly to be found in a lab by day attempting to measure the temperature of combustion (or, as far as most people seem to be concerned, shining beams of light into gases and blowing things up), and (occasionally) in the Purple Turtle by night.
Julia Shanks
Julia makes up the second half of your presidential team. She was elected alongside Megan in Michaelmas 2010, after also being a member of the executive committee in 2009 in the role of treasurer, creating strong links with the academic and administrative bodies of the college. Julia has been a member of LMH since 2008 when she studied the MSc in Pharmacology before continuing onto a DPhil. Therefore fellow scientist alongside Megan, Julia can often be found in very dark rooms surrounded by microscopes desperately trying to make sympathetic neurons do something. Yorkshire born and bred, Julia is a friendly folk. Together the presidential team and remaining exec aim to make your transition to LMH/Oxford/England whichever it may be as smooth, fun and sociable as possible. We have all had great times at LMH which is why we want to pass our expertise on and make sure others feel the same. Please don’t hesitate to contact the exec about any questions you may have, or just to say a quick hello.
Hailing from a renowned French family of musical cheese makers, it has been obvious from early childhood that Sylvestre had two gifts, playing a pan flute and making exotic cheese. Known locally as ‘Le Méchant Fromager’ (The Naughty Cheese Maker), Sylvestre has become a local star for coming up with the amazing combination of Brie, Anchovies, and Ginger that commands top Euros at restaurants across France. People claim that just one sniff of this amazing cheese concoction takes them back to childhood and running along a beach next to an industrial sewage plant at low tide. However, such an amazing recipe comes at a price; hours of intense mathematical calculations go into every batch, and thus Sylvestre has come to Oxford to pursue a DPhil in Computer Math in order to help him perfect his work into a true Masterpiece of smelly jubilation. He is so dedicated to his work that his only hobby is smelling cheese, and he can often be seen in the covered market doing just that. As the MCR secretary he forms the forefront of the MCR’s dairy based knowledge, and is always available to let people try his latest trial in finding France’s Next Top Cheese.
Emily Popp
Emily is originally from Missouri, in the United States, and lived in New York prior to coming to Oxford. She is currently doing an MPhil in Economics and is proud to be the MCR’s Treasurer and Green rep! Please send her any suggestions on how to make the MCR more environmentally friendly.

Natalie Sanderson

Natalie Sanderson
Natalie Sanderson is pursuing a DPhil in Art Theory at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford. Her dissertation is on the U.S. Pavilion’s exhibitions at the Venice Biennale from 1964 to the present. She has an Mst in History of Art and Visual Culture from the University of Oxford and a BA in Art History from the University of California, Los Angeles. In between her studies at Oxford Natalie has worked as a filmmaker and a curator. She co-founded the Nepal Arts Preservation Association with fellow Oxford History of Art graduate Sumnima Udas. They created the documentary feature film “Lost Souls” on the illicit trafficking of Nepalese sacred art that premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in 2007 and has had a number of screenings including a UNESCO presentation in Kathmandu. At the University Art Museum UC, Santa Barbara, she curated exhibitions including: Andy Warhol Presents, terminus: the MFA thesis exhibition, Sounds of the Silk Road, Dali’s Divine Comedy, Journey: Dan Eldon’s Images of War and Peace, Betty Gold Holistic Abstractions, and Garry Winogrand: Women are Beautiful. MCR Reps
Alexander Yu

Alexander Yu
Hi everyone, my name is Alexander Yu, I am from Canada and am currently completing an M.St. in Late Antique and Byzantine Studies. I will be your MCR Internal Representative this year. In short, matters of food and housing shall be my area of responsibility. So please, address concerns to me.
For housing concerns, please first try the college Bursar, and for smaller matters like broken light bulbs and the such, email first Faults, they might not email you back about matters, but generally they will just quietly fix the problem. If they however do not do so, do contact me, but please understand the speed at which I can help is not great at all.
A little bit more about myself, I really love basketball, so one day while I was chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool and all shooting some b-ball outside of the school, when a couple of guys, they were up to no good, started making trouble in my neighbourhood, I got in one little fight and my mom got scared, and she said “you’re moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air” So I whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror, if anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought nah forget it, “yo home to Bel-Air!” I pulled up to a house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabby “yo home smell, you later” looked at my kingdom I was finally there, to settle my throne as the prince of Bel-Air.
Sian Wilson
Outdoor and all round country sports woman, Sian is originally from Deepest darkest Cheshire. Carried South on the blustery gale of hurricane ‘Ra’, she landed in Oxford town. Now fully adjusted to the way of life in the land of The-seemingly-Studious, after a long mourning period over the lack of cobbles, chimney-sweeps, cows, sheep, Mr. Darcy-type-folk and charming country manors. She henceforth decided to be naught but a humble servant to thee… Sian is here for you Tea, coffee, DVD, Book, board game and scouring-sponge needs. Often left haggard and deflated after a round with her Year 9 class, she can often be found huddled in the corner of the MCR rocking back and forth, mumbling childish retorts and jibes she should have used on the class a few hours previous.
James Reeve

James Reeve
Hi, I’m James, the wine rep. Its my job to make sure that the MCR cellars are fully stocked with fine yet affordable wines, which the MCR has access to at a very reasonable price. I’m doing a DPhil in Organic Chemistry, but people think that I just make colours and blow bubbles, which is what it boils down to really. If you would like a particular wine, or fancy doing a wine tasting, come and find me. Ill always be in the MCR before formal hall.
Pedro Sousa

Pedro Sousa
Pedro is a strange and mysterious creature. It is told that he originates from somewhere in Southern Europe, where he is often seen residing in the ocean. The most fantastic reports tell of him ressembling a seal on top of some kind of board when in the water, possessing a thick and spongy layer of skin which he removes whenever he comes into dry land. Even though it is most likely he is a mammal, some have taken this to mean he is either a reptile or an amphibean, not only because of his marine habits but also because he is a lawyer and is therefore bound to be cold blooded.
He is a deceitful creature, changing his habits according to the environment; he is known to trap its unwitting preys within a room and make them cough up large amounts of money for a piece of paper, or to convince his fellow students to vote him for MCR President. He is also known as the “Portuguese Love Machine”, another indication of how dangerous he can be sometimes.
Accordingly, even though he seems nice and helpful, he should be treated with extreme caution as he could potentially be as deadly as a great white shark, which he sometimes resembles (see attached picture). He is also your Constitutional Rep, as he apparently enjoys drawing up rules in his free time.
Tom Rowley
Sarah Anna Brinckmann

Sarah Brinckmann
Sarah was born in the Netherlands. Currently she is doing DPhil in Aids Vaccine Research and she is our MCR’s IT rep !
Tiago Rito

Tiago Rito
Hi! I’m Tiago, a 2yr D.Phil. student in Systems Biology and also your
LGBTQ representative, which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender, with a final Q for queer or questioning – this is an
inclusive umbrella term for a whole range of people who challenge the
policing of gender and sexuality in our society. My position comes
with three hats: the representative, the confidential peer-support and
the entz. I normally organise one or two events a term, which involve
tea and movies being served, so keep an eye on the termcard. However I
am also privy to information about other parties and clubbing. Oxford
is open-minded and chilled out (if you strip it from uni work
craziness that is) so….enjoy it! If you have any questions,
suggestions, concerns or really just want to talk, don’t hesitate to
contact me.
